My Oxford Summer Course Diary: Inspired by Innocence: How a 6-Year-Old Child Motivated My Solo Journey to Oxford

 Hello Everyone,

I'm Ishita Pandey, a class 12 student at Jayshree Periwal International School in Jaipur, and I’m beyond excited to share my incredible journey to Oxford University for a summer course.

Reaching Oxford:

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of preparations. Securing my UK visa at the last moment, packing my bags, and getting the necessary permissions from my school – it was all quite the adventure. As this was my first time traveling without my parents and staying out of India for two weeks, I was understandably nervous. But I embraced the challenge and geared up for my solo journey. A big thank you to Harshad Sir and Shobhita Madam from Air India for their incredible support through the minor accompany services.

How a 6-Year-Old Child Motivated My Solo Journey

As I checked in, my nerves were at an all-time high. The thought of flying alone was daunting, and I was close to calling my parents to cancel the trip. But then, something magical happened. I met a 6-year-old child also traveling alone with the airline’s minor accompany services. His confidence and excitement were contagious. I thought to myself, “If he can fly alone at 6, why can’t I at 17?”

This young traveler inspired me deeply. His bravery gave me the strength to overcome my fears. With renewed confidence, I boarded my Air India flight, which took off at 6:45 am from Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport. I landed at London’s Heathrow Terminal 2 on Sunday, July 21, at 11:30 am. The warm welcome from the Oxford summer team was just what I needed after a long journey.

After a 90-minute drive, I arrived at the beautiful Oxford campus, where I will be staying until August 3, 2024. The campus buzzes with students from all over the world, and I’m eager to learn from this diverse group. Although I’m naturally shy and introverted, I am determined to make the most of this transformative experience.

In a few hours, I’ll be meeting my teacher, Keiron Winn Sir, and other faculty members. I can’t wait to dive into this enriching journey. A heartfelt thank you to my parents and my teachers for their unwavering support.
