From Jetlag to Joy: My First Day at Oxford


My first day at the Oxford Summer Course in Creative Writing was a blend of excitement and new experiences, despite battling jetlag from my long journey. As I woke up, a mix of anticipation and tiredness filled me, but I quickly got ready for my class. The atmosphere at Oxford was electrifying, and I was thrilled to meet fellow students from various corners of the world.

Our class was a melting pot of diverse perspectives, each student bringing their unique cultural and personal narratives to the table. The discussions were vibrant and stimulating, making me appreciate the beauty of storytelling from different lenses. The day’s lessons were both engaging and enlightening, providing a solid foundation for my creative pursuits.

Post-class, I decided to explore the charming streets of Oxford. I walked to Sainsbury, a quaint street bustling with activity. The experience of shopping and buying fresh fruits was a delightful adventure. It was my first real taste of managing my needs independently in a foreign country, a small yet significant step towards self-reliance.




Navigating through the streets, engaging with local vendors, and soaking in the rich history and culture of Oxford was incredibly fulfilling. This experience is not just about learning creative writing but also about growing as an individual, preparing me for the college life that awaits next year.

For fellow summer students, here are a few tips to enhance your experience:

1. Embrace diversity and engage in conversations with peers from different backgrounds.

2. Take time to explore the local area – it’s a great way to unwind and learn about the culture.

3. Manage your time efficiently to balance academic and personal activities.

4. Don’t hesitate to ask for help or directions; the locals are usually very friendly.

5. Keep a diary to jot down your daily experiences – it’s a great way to reflect and document your journey.



Overall, my first day at Oxford was a blend of learning, exploration, and personal growth. I look forward to the days ahead and the stories they will bring.
